A flexible office space to reflect sustainable business practices

MCM is a design firm whose architectural, interior and workplace consultancy prioritises sustainable business practises and environmental solutions. Their new offices in Great Suffolk Yard embody these principles entirely. Timber pods house the meeting rooms and phone booths, space separation is permitted by the addition of heavy curtains. The plywood meeting rooms and small pods are wool insulated and along with the kitchen and through the use of glue less technology and bolts instead of screws, they can be dismantled and transported if they need to move to a new location. All amounting to a sustainable, flexible and evolving space that can adapt with the firm’s needs.

The greatest challenge involved repurposing and making modifications to the existing fixtures on site, such as the lighting and ventilation, in order for them to integrate and interact with the new layout and pods.

This was a full Cat B fit out and works included new electrical, audio visual and lighting, new plumbing, modifications to existing ventilation systems to accommodate the new layout, the timber pods and tea points, glass panels and doors, new floor finishes and furniture plus plants and fixtures throughout.
